Environmental dna (edna) study
For the Future of the Henry’s Fork Fisheries
Beneath the surface of the Henry’s Fork, there’s a story unfolding that we’re only beginning to understand. This year, through Idaho Gives, the Henry’s Fork Foundation is launching a new environmental DNA (eDNA) study focused on mountain whitefish and PMD hatches—two key signals of the river’s health. By collecting tiny traces of genetic material from the water, our team can track fish movement, better understand hatch timing and abundance, and begin to see how this ecosystem is changing over time. It’s a powerful new tool, grounded in real fieldwork—sampling across the watershed, processing data, and building long-term insight that will guide how we protect this river. Your support makes this work possible, and with a $16,000 matching gift from our Board of Directors, every donation during Idaho Gives will go twice as far.
