“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”  – Benjamin Franklin

The Science and Technology Raffle raises money to increase HFF’s scientific and technological capacity to inform real-time, science-based management of the Henry’s Fork and its watersheds. HFF uses predictive computer models, modern statistical methods, and the latest high-tech hardware and software to promote favorable streamflow, good water quality, healthy fish populations, and a positive fishing experience.

SUPPORT AN ISLAND PARK CLIMATE AND WEATHER STATION

Finding solutions for cooler, clearer water and creating more habitat for trout and insects along the Henry’s Fork is at the heart of our mission. But how do we uncover these solutions? It all starts with data and knowledge. What controls water temperatures out of Island Park Dam? Are air temperature, wind, and snowpack all connected? And what role does snowmelt play in shaping the river downstream?

To answer these questions—and to advance the goals of the DIRTT Plan—we need to install a state-of-the-art climatological monitoring station near Island Park Dam. This station will collect wind speed, humidity, soil moisture, precipitation, snow depth, air temperature, and solar radiation data. Wind, in particular, may have a significant impact on water quality in Island Park Reservoir and the fishery downstream.

We also need to conduct a study of snowmelt to assess its effects on water quality, and the fishing experience, but must raise $150,000 to unlock this opportunity. By supporting this weather station, you’ll not only be contributing to the success of the DIRTT Plan, but also helping us take a giant leap forward in understanding and managing the impacts of snowmelt on the Henry’s Fork.

At the Henry’s Fork Foundation, we believe that knowledge is not just an academic pursuit—it’s a powerful tool for change. With your support, we can turn data into action, making the Henry’s Fork healthier, stronger, and more resilient for generations to come.
